Iron removal – IronMan™ Filtration System
You are here: Home / Products / IronMan™ Filtration System
Iron is the 4th most abundant metallic element in the Earth’s crust. Water percolating through soil and rock can dissolve minerals containing iron and hold them in solution in varying amounts, depending on properties, such as pH, oxygen levels, salinity, and the presence or absence of other chemicals in solution. In boreholes, where oxygen content is low, water containing dissolved iron will appear clear and colourless. However, once it oxidised it can form an orange precipitate. Iron in water does not usually present a health risk at low concentrations, but it can promote the growth some harmful organisms and iron bacteria, such as Creothrix and Gallionella, at high concentrations. Iron precipitates result in unsightly staining and has a high probability of build-up in pipes, irrigation systems and buildings’ reticulation network. High iron in water also has a negative impact on certain plants and animals, and it negatively affects other industrial and water treatment processes (such as membrane and disinfection technologies). It is therefore critical for iron to be removed before use.

IronMan™ Filters
A Water Filter that removes High Levels of Iron from Groundwater to meet SANS 241 requirement for Iron.
Benefits of IronMan™
- Removes VERY high levels of iron from groundwater – up to 80 ppm
- Minimal maintenance – 6 to 12 monthly services
- CHEMICAL FREE operation – Low Running Cost
- Operates directly from borehole pump
- Tolerance for feed water spikes & deviations (which often occur during/after a drought)
- NO media consumption
- Automated backwash
- Durable design (304 Stainless Steel)
- Greater than 96% recovery
- Environmentally friendly process
- No additional pumps/power consumption as operates from borehole pump
- Only 1.5 bar necessary
- Long lasting media (up to 15 yrs)
- No to minimal consumables present

The technology on which the filter operates is known as “deferum”
- Water is injected at a high velocity into an aerator on the top of the hydro robot where it is intensely aerated, allowing most of the dissolved gases to be released (carbon dioxide, sulfur, radon and methane)
- The water falls down the hydro robot and enters the bottom of the filter. The upward flow of water passes through the floating polymer bed which has an electrostatic charge and thereby attracts all the oxidized iron.
- Since the filtration process is an up-flow process, the clean, filtered water overflows into the filtrate tank.
- The backwash facility on the filter removes the iron oxide from the filter bed. The backwash process last for 5-15 minutes and uses less than 2-4% of total water produced by the filter

Ironman filters. IronMan Catalyst is formulated from manganese ore and activated in special proprietary furnace which is capable of removing iron, manganese, aluminium salts, tannins, chlorides and hydrogen sulphide from water through oxidation and filtration. Soluble iron, manganese etc. are oxidized and precipitated by contact with higher oxides of manganese on the IronMan granules. The hydrogen sulphide is eliminated by oxidation to sulphate and an insoluble precipitate. Precipitates are then filtered and removed by backwashing. Solve your water hardness and scale problems the efficient way and save money! Many water supplies in South Africa have damaging levels of calcium and magnesium making up hard water. This hard water will cause scale build-up on your plumbing and fixtures. It also shortens the life of clothes and other fabrics. At Absolutely Water and Perfect Water we only use the best combination to build a water softener that will soften your water effectively. Using the high quality RUNXIN 63B1 control valves and brine tanks and high quality softening resin, we give you one of the highest rated systems on the market. Water filtration system removes fine iron and manganese for potable water derived from well water sources. FIBROTEX® technology combines an expandable-bed fibrous filter element and an integrated oxidation system with a PLC. This enables the fibrous filter both to efficiently backwash itself automatically when fully loaded with solids, and to achieve exceptionally fine levels of filtration. Significantly better filtrate and backwash efficiency with smaller footprint when compared to sand filters. Iron Removal Cape Town. iron removal filter Cape Town. How To Remove Iron from Well Water
Iron can be a troublesome chemical in water supplies. Making up at least 5 percent of the earth’s crust, iron is one of the earth’s most plentiful resources. Rainwater as it infiltrates the soil and underlying geologic formations dissolves iron, causing it to seep into aquifers that serve as sources of groundwater for wells. Although present in drinking water, iron is seldom found at concentrations greater than 10 milligrams per liter (mg/L) or 10 parts per million. However, as little as 0.3 mg/l can cause water to turn a reddish brown color. Iron is mainly present in water in two forms: either the soluble ferrous iron or the insoluble ferric iron. Water containing ferrous iron is clear and colorless because the iron is completely dissolved. When exposed to air in the pressure tank or atmosphere, the water turns cloudy and a reddish brown substance begins to form. Ironman filters This sediment is the oxidized or ferric form of iron that will not dissolve in water. Iron Removal Cape Town. iron removal filter Cape Town. Iron is generally not hazardous to ones health and is considered a secondary or aesthetic contaminant. It can however cause a disagreeable metallic taste and also leads to the growth of smelly biofilms. Another unwanted side effect is the reddish-brown staining of fixtures and laundry. removal of iron and manganese from water. Iron is oxidized from its dissolved state in an accelerated reaction that takes place in the filter bed. The precipitated metals are then captured by the filter media and later removed by back washing. A number of oxidizing agents can be used as oxidants depending on the application. These range from simple aeration through to powerful oxidants such as ozone and Hydrogen Peroxide. Ironman filters

Iron is one of the most common contaminants faced by well owners. From muddy-colored glasses of drinking water to bright orange streaks in toilets and bathtubs, iron leaves a trail of stains, discoloration, and foul tastes in its wake. Though it is one of the most prevalent water quality issues faced by well-owners, there are many solutions to rid your water of this unwelcome mineral. How does iron get into well water? Iron primarily enters into your well water by seeping in from the earth’s crust. Iron is the most abundant mineral in the earth’s crust, making it a pervasive nuisance for well owners across the globe. Heavy rainfall percolating through the soil will dissolve iron, ushering iron deposits into the underground aquifers. Ironman filters As snow melts and seeps through the earth into groundwater supplies, it introduces iron into well water sources. Making up over 5% of the earth’s crust, iron is one of the earth’s most common and widespread natural resources, so its rampant presence in well water is unpreventable, no matter how diligently a homeowner maintains their well. Iron exists in wells in three forms: ferric, ferrous, and bacterial. Each manifestation of iron stipulates a different iron filter or treatment process. The Iron Removal Filters are designed to remove the Excess Iron content present in the feed water with minimum pressure drop. Most iron filtration systems operate on the principal of oxidizing the iron (oxidation) to convert it from a ferrous (dissolved or soluble) to a ferric or undissolved state. Iron can also enter your well water supply from exposure to rusty, corroded plumbing. Aged iron pipes and corroded iron fixtures will leave brown-colored flecks in your water and orange stains on your drains. Iron casings within your well will begin to rust over time. When iron is exposed to oxygen and water, the iron begins to oxidize and deteriorate. This is because prolonged exposure to the elements causes iron to break down and convert into rust. This can be remedied by replacing the pipes running from your well. If your well is old and in disrepair, drilling a new well altogether can alleviate your iron woes.
